As is our tradition here, if we covered a fight live and tweeted details from ringside** we like to post a recap later for any of you anti-social media types. Here is a chronological recounting of our live-tweets from ringside, made slightly more grammatical and a little bit less hashtaggie.

One amateur bout left to go here @FoxwoodsCT then get ready for the Homecoming Kings show featuring @OfficialBadChad and @Tramaine_Will #boxing
Owen (L) trades with Belenchia (R) |
Bout 1 is up, females, 4 rounds, Marisa Belenchia of New Haven, CT, making her Pro debut at 110lbs. goes up against Delaney Owen of Clearwater, FL 111lbs.
spirited first round from these two women. Belenchia's punches look a little short but she was the more poised fighter in the first. Owen looked to be burning through lots of nervous energy.
Owen's jab effective and reddening the face of Belenchia
Owen's punches are straighter and thus a bit speedier. She won that second but Belenchia is aggressive and sometimes that wins rounds, just because. Especially in a 4 rounder.
Belenchia bleeding from a cut along her brow. They bonked heads in that 3rd with about a minute to go and she got the worst of it. That 3rd round was close. Final round now.
Now Owen is cut too. Both women bleeding.
Both women bleeding from their brows and swinging with both hands at the bell. This one was close. Owen may very well have won that but I don' see her getting a decision. Belenchia, the Spider Monkey, gutted this out. Good fight.
Missed the scorecards of 2 judges but one had it 40-36 for Belenchia. She wins a Unanimous Decision and picks up her first pro victory. Fun fight!
Mascarenhas (R) swings at Ramirez (L) |
Bout 2, Wilson Mascarenhas of New Bedford, MA 139lbs versus Anthony Ramirez of Philadelphia, PA 138lbs. #boxing
Heated first round between these two 140 pounders. Ramirez took more punishment, especially to the ribs.
Mascarehas in charge here through three. Ramirez needs to make something big happen this round...or just not get dropped or stopped.
That's all for that one and it was never even close. Mascarenhas should pick up the decision 40-36. Waiting on the scorecards…
All three judges had it 40-36 for New Bedford's Wilson "Ill Will" Mascarenhas who improves to 2-1. Ramirez backs into his pro-career at 0-1.
Bout 3, Oscar Bonilla of Bridgeport, CT 135lbs versus Julio Perez of Worcester, MA 132lbs. 6 rounds, lightweights
Perez (R) reaches Bonilla (L) with the jab |
speedy first round for these two lightweights. Both men flurried in close, scoring to the body. Perez is taller and longer but so far he's mixing it up, not really using distance yet.
Fun, active bout here. Not a lot of damaging punches landing but there's no lack of throwing. Perez looks to be landing cleaner and straighter but Bonilla is always coming forward and swinging for the guts of Perez with both hands.
Bonilla needed a big fifth round and he got it. He's landed heavy right hand bolts to Perez's head. Perez scores with a left to the chin of Bonilla in the final ten seconds.
Perez doing lots of circling while Bonilla stalks him.
Perez all smiles at the bell. He feels confident with his effort. Fun fight. Let's see who the judges liked more--the slick and speedy boxing of Perez or the forward-marching attacking pressure of Bonilla
all 3 judges scored it 59-55 in favor of Oscar Bonilla. Apparently they didn't care for all the jabs I was enjoying
Bout 4, Nathan Martinez of New Britain, CT 125lbs. versus Jose Homar Rios of Hawley, MN 127lbs. 4 rounds, featherweights
Martinez (L) ducks under a left from Rios (R) |
Rios got the worst of the first minute but then he landed a hard left hook to the short rib that backed Martinez up. Both men able to hurt each other in that opening round.
This bout seemed as though it was going to end early but Rios surged with confidence after landing that first round body shot and now both guys are throwing with bad intentions. Martinez did more damage in that second round but Rios putting up a spirited fight
Rios took a shellacking in that third round. Martinez has a big cheering section here and they enjoyed watching him land combinations on the game but outgunned Rios.
Nathan Martinez of New Britain, CT picks up a unanimous decision win, all three officials saw it 40-36 in his favor. He is now 4-0 (1). Jose Homar Rios falls to 2-7-1 (1) #boxing
Rivera (L) snakes through the guard of Podda (R) |
Rivera came out very aggressively in the first, battering Podda back along the ropes. Podda was able to counter Rivera with a stinging shot he never saw and that seemed to make Rivera a bit more cautious.
Rivera having some difficulty getting inside. He's still winning but he's not as bold or as effective as he was in the first half of round one. we're in round 4 of 6. Podda reaching and poking and Rivera waving him forward, asking him to attack.
Rivera scored a knockdown in the fourth. Podda wasn't hurt but it was a clean shot to the chin that put the taller man on the deck.More
Rivera scored a knockdown in the fourth. Podda wasn't hurt but it was a clean shot to the chin that put the taller man on the deck.More
Both guys landed some big sweat-spraying shots in the fifth but Rivera is doing more damage and more connecting.
After six heated rounds Jose Rivera comes away with the unanimous decision by scores of 59-54 x 3
Here we go with our all-New Haven co-featured bouts! Here comes @Tramaine_Will's opponent to "Eye of the Tiger" here's Neil John Tabanao of the Philippines
Here comes @Tramaine_Will The Mighty Midget weighing in at 123 pounds... we're fighting 10 r
Tramaine Williams (R) fires a right at Neil Tabanao (L) |
Neil John Tabanao also scaled 123 pounds.
Cautious first from these two but @Tramaine_Will landed straight lefts to the belly of Tabanao. The Filipino landed a clean right but there wasn't much to choose from in the first.
The drunker members of this crowd are getting a little frustrated with the careful #boxing of @Tramaine_Will but we got a glimpse of the Mighty Midget's monster left when he connected solidly on the head of Tabanao in that second.
@Tramaine_Will landing more often now. He's speedy smart with that left power hand from the southpaw stance. Tabanao can't see it coming.
Ref. Mercante Jr. warns both guys for rough stuff, the fight continues and Williams slams Tabanao with a right hook
Tabanao is losing these rounds but he's undeterred so far. Williams has blasted him with single shots that have raised lots of ooos and ahs from this pro-New Haven crowd but he's yet to hurt the Filipino
@Tramaine_Will putting in the work here. Tabanao connected with a solid right of his own at the end of the sixth. Williams looks winded but he's still in control.
Tabanao just landed a big overhand right and @Tramaine_Will didn't even flinch #solidchin
Coming up on the final round here in Williams-Tabanao.
Williams looking for a kayo here...
Your scorecards are in: @Tramaine_Will picks up a UD victory, scores are 98-92 and 99-91 x 2. Steve Weisfeld was the judge who gave Tabanao 2 rounds. I'd tend to agree with that. But definitely solid win for New Haven own's Mighty Midget
The Main Event @OfficialBadChad of New Haven, CT 178lbs. versus Quinton Rankin of Charlotte, N.C. 179lbs. #HomecomingKings #boxing
Dawson in charge so far, through 1 and a half rounds. Some grappling now. Rankin shoved his forearms in Dawson's face and gets a forceful warning.
Rankin doing quite a bit of clutching and grabbing
This one has gotten awkward and rough. Both guys sank into the ropes after swinging wildly and falling into each other at the start of the second.
This is southpaw versus southpaw and it looks every bit of it.
@OfficialBadChad connected cleanly with rights and lefts in that third and this crowd loved it
Rankin is definitely fighting in "Don't knock me out" mode
Dawson's eye swelled rapidly after catching an elbow in the fifth |
Dawson blasted Rankin with a left hand in the final fifteen seconds of the fourth. But much of the round he spent chasing Rankin and getting grabbed.
HUGE uppercut from Rankin puts Dawson down and in massive trouble!! But...
An exuberant Rankin took another whack at Dawson while he was down and Referee Mike Ortega took an interminable amount of time to warn him for the infraction thus insuring Dawson had time to clear the cobwebs. #stunning
If Rankin goes back to that uppercut maybe he can make something happen for himself again here but @OfficialBadChad proving his mettle right now. His eye is swelling and he looks to be on auto-pilot but he won that round.
Chad Dawson looks like a beaten fighter here but Referee Mike Ortega is doing all he can to punish the rough and tumble Quinton Rankin. Just took another point from the North Carolinian. MASSIVE swelling of Dawson's eye.
Dawson is very lucky this is an eight rounder because his eye looks awful. Final round.
Well Chad Dawson is sure to walk out of here with a win but that's certainly not a comeback fight that heralds a triumphant return.
Your scorecards and 80-68, 78-72 x 2 all in favor of @OfficialBadChad who leaves here with a badly swollen eye and a lot to think about. That was not the best opponent to look good against though, that's for sure. Rankin was an awkward and rugged southpaw.
well that's it from here folks, thanks for following along. #boxing
