Baby Jake Matlala vs. Francis Ampofo
June 11, 1994
Measuring just under a meter and a half (4 foot ten inches) from the soles of his feet to the top of his head, South African flyweight Baby Jake Matlala was the shortest world champion in history. Matlala died of complications from pneumonia at just 51 years of age in December of 2013, but on this day in 1994 he defeated the UK's Francis "Pocket Battleship" Ampofo, in Matlala's fifty-first professional prizefight, his 40th win.
