Promoter Main Events' Rising Stars Boxing Series holds its second show at Mohegan Sun

Tomorrow night boxing promoter Main Events returns to Mohegan Sun for the second installment in their Rising Stars Boxing Series in the Uncas Ballroom with the Main Event and co-feature to air live on HBO Latino. Cuban light heavyweight Sullivan Barrera faces Paul Parker in the 10 round main event. Barrera enters the ring for the first time in twenty-seventeen, his last bout was in December when he handed Ukrainian prospect Vyacheslav Shabranskyy his first defeat. Sullivan Barrera is currently ranked fifth in the world at 175lbs by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board.  Barrera has fought twice in CT before, he scored knockouts at Foxwoods, once in twenty-fourteen and in twenty-fifteen he ended the career of Jeff Lacy. This will be his first fight at Mohegan Sun.

Paul Parker comes in as a late replacement who is taking a big step up in class against Barrera.

In the co-featured attraction, Vaughn Alexander of Saint Louis, MO, looks for his third victory in a comeback that's been a dozen years in the making. Serving 11 years for armed robbery and assault, Alexander rededicated his life to boxing upon his release and is now 2-0 (1) in his comeback run. He debuted after a stellar amateur career back in twenty-oh-four when he went 5-0 (4) in his first year as a prize-fighter.

Also seeing action on the card are three international prospects, 2 from Kazakhstan and one from Georgia, along with heavyweight Cassius Chaney who fights out of nearby New London, CT.

Undercard bouts include Super Welterweight Madiyar Ashkeyev 7-0 (3) fighting Shawn Cameron 10-2 (5) in an 8 round bout. Heavyweight Cassius Chaney 9-0 (5) looking for his tenth win versus Juan Goode 8-4 (6). They're boxing six rounds. Undefeated Middleweight Javier Olvera 1-0 (1) of Mexico fights Meiirim Nursultanov 1-0 of Kazakhstan in a 6 round bout. Super Welterweight Enriko Gogokhia 3-0 (1) of Georgia, the country not the state, fights Bryan Goldsby 4-2 in a 6 rounder. Featherweight Kevin Asmat 2-1 (2) will meet Jonathan Ramos 1-2 in a 4 round bout.

Cassius Chaney looks for his 10th straight on Saturday night at Mohegan Sun

KOFantasyBoxing last spoke with heavyweight Cassius Chaney in May of twenty-fifteen before his second fight, a four round unanimous decision victory over Ruben Ortiz at the Danbury Ice Arena. Since then Chaney has won seven straight, four by stoppage, and hopes to notch his tenth win on Saturday night against Juan Goode of Detroit, MI. When we spoke to him today after the final press conference for Saturday's HBO Latino show, he told us about what he's learned about conditioning and gave us his thoughts on the upcoming Klitschko vs. Joshua bout as well as Fury-Parker and more of his views of the whole heavyweight scene. Alexander steps into the ring for the 3 time since a lay-off of 12 years during which he did 11 years in prison for armed robbery and assault. Upon his release Alexander has rededicated his life to boxing and works with his brother and trainer Lamar.

Sullivan Barrera To Face Paul Parker Saturday, April 15

Uncasville, CT:      Sullivan Barrera (18-1, 13 KOs), the exciting Miami-based light heavyweight from Cuba, will return to HBO Latino Boxing on Saturday, April 15 at Mohegan Sun's Uncas Ballroom against Toledo, OH native Paul "Pay Per View" Parker (8-1, 4 KOs). Barrera will look to build on his thrilling knockout victory on HBO Latino® Boxing in Decemberover previously unbeaten prospect Vyacheslav Shabranskyy, while the prospect Parker looks to make a statement in the biggest challenge of his career to date. The HBO Latino Boxing telecast begins at 11:00 p.m. ET (live ET/tape-delayed PT).

Barrera, 35, of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba made his professional debut in 2009 after defecting to the United States. His career began with five straight knockouts and nearly seven-year undefeated streak until he suffered his first defeat against current WBO, WBA and IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion Andre "SOG" Ward in March of last year. Barrera bounced back in late 2016 with his upset KO over Shabranskyy in his most-recent appearance on HBO Latino.

Parker, 32, has had an impressive career thus far since his professional debut in 2012. His only loss was a third-round TKO against Shabranskyy in June of 2015. He rebounded in early 2016 with an eight-round split decision victory over Lionell "Lonnie B" Thompson.

In the televised co-feature, Russian slugger Arif "The Predator" Magomedov (18-1, 11 KOs) will take on Mexican prospect Elias "Latin Kid" Espadas (13-3, 8 KOs) in a ten-round middleweight showdown. Magomedov, 24, last appeared on HBO Latino in May of last year when he last a hard-fought battle to Andrew Hernandez in Las Vegas. In his most recent bout he stopped Chris Herrmann in the second round in his home country of Russia.

Espadas, 26, is from Merida, Yucatan, Mexico and made his professional debut nearly five years ago in his home country of Mexico. He has fought several times in the US in both California and Florida but this will be his first time fighting in New England. He has won his last four fights in a row with three of those wins coming by way of knockout.

The event is part of the "Mohegan Sun's Rising Stars Boxing Series" presented by Mohegan Sun and Main Events. The exciting joint-venture, which features boxing prospect from New England and around the world, met with rave reviews after the debut event in November. As part of the untelevised undercard, the latest installment of "Rising Stars" will feature the return of local fighters Cassius Chaney from New London, CT, Reinaldo Graceski from Springfield, Mass., Kevin Asmat from Union City, NJ, and Shawn Cameron from Brooklyn, NY. Also returning to Mohegan Sun are highly-touted middleweight prospect Vaughan Alexander and international talents Enriko Gogokhia, a junior middleweight from Ukraine, Madiyar Ashkeyev, a junior middleweight from Kazakhstan, and Meiirim Nursultanov a middleweight also from Kazakhstan.

Upcoming Heavyweight Cassius Chaney looks for win number 10 this Saturday night at Mohegan Sun

Baltimore, Maryland's Cassius Chaney returns to action this Saturday night in Uncasville, CT at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Chaney, an undefeated heavyweight, looks to score his 10th victory in as many fights when he faces Juan Goode of Taylor, MI in a scheduled 6 rounder. 

Chaney debuted as a pro just under two years ago and has been busy in the ring, honing his craft, his last bout coming in March versus Tommy Washington Jr. in which Chaney won a 6 round majority decision. Chaney carries the given name of The Greatest of All Time and hopes to make his mark in the heavyweight decision. So far so good.
A Main Events fighter, Chaney will be featured as part of an eight bout card put on by the New Jersey based promoter with the main event pitting Sullivan Barrera against Paul Parker, to be aired live on HBO Latino. Billed as Rising Stars, the card will include upcoming talent from Russia, Kazakhstan and North Bergen, New Jersey. Tickets are still available through Ticketmaster.com

Jimmy Quiet Storm Williams batters Nick DeLomba over ten rounds to pick up the WBC USNBC Welterweight Title at Twin River Event Center

New Haven's Jimmy Williams stormed into Lincoln, Rhode Island last night to claim the vacant WBC USNBC Welterweight Championship with a 10 round unanimous decision victory over Cranston, RI's Nick DeLomba in the Main Event of an eleven bout card promoted by Rhode Island-based Classic Entertainment and Sports.

Years ago Jack Blackburn, the great lightweight turned-trainer of heavyweight champ Joe Louis, told his charge that when the deck is stacked against you "let your right fist be the referee." Fighting for the first time beyond the six round distance in his opponent's hometown, Jimmy Williams, 143.5lbs, seemed to embody Blackburn's exhortation, blasting away at and dropping Nick Delomba, 142lbs, with two big right hands in the very first round. Stunned by the first jolting right about halfway through the first, DeLomba smirked in a clinch trying to conceal his surprise. Williams kept the pressure on his traditionally slow-starting opponent and never let up.

From a distance it was Williams landing the one-two again and again, while DeLomba tried crowding him, hoping to land combinations in close. Periodically DeLomba succeeded in getting close but not to be denied, Williams often exchanged in close and fired right back when DeLomba flurried.

The seventh round was especially brutal, Williams hurt DeLomba repeatedly and looked to be very close to stopping him. To his credit, DeLomba recovered well and kept trying to the final bell to end the tenth, a distance he too was going for the very first time.

After ten the judges saw it 98-91, 97-92 x 2 all in favor of Williams.

In his post-fight comments Williams welcomed a rematch and was proud to dedicate the fight to the memory of his mom and dad, both deceased. Jimmy Quiet Storm Williams picked up the WBC USNBC Welterweight Title and improved to 13-0-1 (5) while DeLomba fell to 11-2 (2).
